Paediatric Physio
Many children and adolescents experience pain and injuries related to this key stage of development.
The most common injuries we treat children for are: growth related pain (Osgood-Schlatter’s, Sever’s and Sinding-Larsen Johansson syndrome), sports injuries, posture-related pain (neck pain, back pain and scoliosis) and lower limb biomechanics (gait, joint pain, coordination).
Why is paediatric physio needed?
Our muscles, tendons and bones are under a unique form of stress when we grow. Whilst it is a common misconception that this equals weakness and fragility, these structures can be more susceptible to pain and injury. Couple this with an active lifestyle and 8 days a week of sports *parents nod along to this part* it can become somewhat of a double-edged sword.
Understanding the correct interventions at the right time is paramount in management. Some individuals/injuries need rest; many need to manage their workload and others often require increasing physical capacities. Leave the details to us. We will create a concise, detailed management plan and liaise with all relevant parties (school, clubs, GPs, etc).
What’s involved?
We cater for patients from the age of 5 years upwards. Some situations may require a second pair of eyes or specialist input. We have access to a broad network of clinicians to support your child.
Children under the age of 16 will need a parent or guardian present during their initial assessment and complete registration documents. At subsequent appointments, the parent/guardian does not need to be present if agreed in advance by the treating physiotherapist and written confirmation is provided. Parents/guardians are responsible for their Child’s welfare before and after appointments.
